Zaru was recognized with a Bib Gourmand Award in the 2024 Michelin Guide.
At Zaru, the design celebrates the lively energy of Japan’s street frontage dining while paying tribute to the artisanal craft behind its signature chewy noodles, sourced directly from Kagawa Prefecture. The goal was to create a space that feels bright, uplifting, and effortlessly dynamic—much like the bustling streets that inspired it.
The interior embraces a bold, upbeat palette: rich greens, warm reds, and cool blues set a vibrant tone, complemented by playful touches of neon and layered textures. This choice of color reflects both the vibrancy of Japanese urban culture and the joyful, casual nature of the dining experience.
Custom shelving punctuates the walls, showcasing rows of bowls and curated objects that nod to tradition while creating rhythm and order in the space. The booths and banquettes, wrapped in lush tones, invite comfort and conversation, while pops of graffiti-style wall art and curated posters inject a touch of street-style grit and authenticity.
In true omakase fashion, the design emphasizes the open kitchen and its energetic choreography, drawing guests into the preparation process as chefs masterfully handle the noodles. Overhead, geometric framing and soft pendant lighting create visual layers that energize the space without overwhelming it.
Paired with an upbeat playlist, Zaru is designed to be approachable, lively, and full of personality—a modern homage to Japan’s street dining culture that invites guests to gather, savor, and celebrate. Every detail reflects the care behind the food itself: authentic, bold, and a little bit unexpected.
